Meet Me

Hi! I’m Allan, a linguist and educator of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) currently based in Dallas, Texas. My passion is to use the latest in linguistic research to improve people’s confidence when using a language.

My main area of research investigates the intersection of syntax and semantics to explore unanswered questions in both subfields, particularly in less documented languages. I also dabble in research and conversations about the pedagogy of endangered languages, the structuring of interpersonal dynamics for more successful language learning classrooms, and current linguistic trends in the LGBTQ+ community.

As a child of immigrants of Oaxacan roots, my research empowers me to serve my community and others like it in our journey to revitalize our indigenous languages and to continue sustaining our cultures.

As you might expect, I enjoy learning languages outside of my academic work—in addition to my native languages of English and Spanish, I also speak Chinese and French. Outside of language, I enjoy traveling internationally, reading and watching science fiction, listening to indie rock, eating spicy food, building PCs, looking at impressionist art, doing yoga, and playing the guzheng.
